Default 305 tbi to ls1

alright everyone knows the 305 tbi sucks, 170 horse 255 ft lb of torque. even the irocs only had like 240 horse. however... the fourth gen camaros with the ls1 motor had 350 horse or somethin with a 6 speed manual. however i'm not too fond of the body styles of the fourth gens, id rather have it in a third gen. Now if i wanted to take the 5.7 ls1 motor and a 6 speed manual out of say... a 2000 camaro from a junkyard that has been crashed. i would need a new computer system, because id be swapping it to multiport injection, the tranny, the motor and probably a new driveshaft because the automatics are bigger then the manuals... is this doable? and also, if anyone knows the exact specifications on a ls1 it would be apreciated

The LS1 was puttin 305 to the ground in a 2002 SS with the 6 speed. It can be done and has been done a million times.

all you would need for the swap are some conversion motor mounts, a wire harness and ecm, and possibly a trans mount. you can use the stock ls1 wire harness but you would have to chop it all up and splice it with your camaro harness. or you can also take the full harness from the ls1 and use the full dash, gauge panel, and controls from the ls1 camaro and swap the whole set up into you camaro.
alot of people have done. http://www.thirdgen.org/techboard/bo...dash-swap.html

or you can buy an aftermarket wire harness that are designed for putting an ls1 into a non-fuel injected car. http://www.painlesswiring.com has a kit aswell as sme other places

right well, as i said before the third gens werent all that good for power, but the fourth gens moved right along. i would like to convert my camaro over to an ls1 with the multiport injection and the 6 speed i believe its the t56 tranny? what is the best way to do this... i can do the work myself, i dont have a real lot of money, would my best bet be getting the wiring harnesses, ecm, tranny, and ls1 out of a banged up camaro in a junkyard and rebuilding it? or just buy a rebuilt ls1 and a rebuilt t56 and just get the wiring harness and ecm from a junkyard? also... right now my camaro is an automatic, and if being converted to the 6 speed from a fourth gen camaro, other then havin the flywheel for a manual and getting the clutch assembly and pedals installed, can i use the same crossmember/tranny mount, and what about the driveshaft?

if you are good with wiring and want to save the $$ then get the wireharness from the junkyard. if you dont know much about wiring then its probably best to get an aftermarket wire harness thats designed for swapping the ls1 into other cars. although they can be pricey they do save a heck of time and frustration of trying to wire it up using the stock harness. i had a tbi 350 out of a 1991 police interceptor that i put into a 1973 camaro and i used a Painless TBI Wire Harness after destoying the stock harness trying to get it to work. their very easy, step by step directions, simplified wire harnesses, every wire is labeled with tags and printed directly on the wires. a blonde could seriously hook one of them up.
