I dont know why it would not work. Does the 1990 has VATs? You will need the whole ECU and wiring harness. You will also need to swap over the fuel pump and I think lines. If you just do the intake you will not have the same power as the TPI 305. I think they had different cams in them also I am not sure bout the compression or the heads.
This was a pretty common upgrade to older cars also. There are several step by step books on how to use the TPI on older V8s.

Waste of money and time. A search for a complete TPI set up and I do mean complete is going to be a BIG & MAJOR PROBLEM. Also the results are not going to be that great with converting a stock 305 TBI to a TPI. But with that said, anything can be done.

Well I disagree with the above. A complete setup is not as hard to find as you might think. You just need to know where to look. I myself have passed 4 or 5 complete ones through my hands personally. I ran my Monte Carlo SS with a 305 TPI for a while until the engine could not handle my abuse any longer. Then I went to a 355 block but kept the top end. The TPI setups are more plentiful now than before due to the popularity of the LT1 and LS1/LS2 swaps

Just searching "TPI" on ebay...I found about 4 complete setups on page one. $550 plus shipping was the highest.
Also I have one on my 355 which is sitting in the next room doing nothing which I would part with.
In the last 2 years I have bought and sold 3 or 4 of them on Craigslist and my local Camaro clubs website.
I'm just pointing out that they are out there. Maybe In Florida where you are they are not as easy to come by as they are here in NJ. So point taken.

For horsepower gains I say no to TPI. For the fuel economy and coolness in the engine bay then yes. To have more power, I would invest the time and money that you would spend on upgrading to TPI into: better heads, cam and headers. You would basically spend about the same amount of money (used parts on eBay) BUT definitely you will feel the difference. Then if you drop a 350 in it in the future, The upgraded parts would transplant over.

Thanks for all the replies. I figured there would not be much of a power gain. My thinking was, if it is not too labor intensive then I would do it simply because I think it is a more interesting system. I could get '87 TPI complete for $500.
