Default 305, Popping Noises? Hmmmm?

Hey guys,

It's been around 3 weeks since I started up the Z28 and actually been driven. Well my Dad and Iwere returning home and we decided to punch it pretty hard for awhile. Then we had to go back out and look for my mom, we thought she got in a wreck because she hadn't returned home.

So I start to notice these POPS and I thought it was a tire but we were fine. Then at the Light I could smell like something was burning but there was no smoke.

Then the car wasn't accelerating quick like usual and pops werepretty loudly.

We put $10 of 91 to see if we were low, or needed a cleaner fuelbit. (Don't ask me)

Anyways it accelerated quicker but the pops were still there.

What is going on? I asked my buddy if my engine was gonna blow and he's like "yea dude your F'd"

Am I really? Hope not, only good think out of this is would be a 350...

-Peace

this may be the exact thing that was happening to me-i had it sitting and i drove not very ofter lkonce a week and then that happened. we put in higher octane fuel and we just took it to the highway and i was doing about 90 for about 20 miles and it just stopped. give it a try, mayb just needs to get some condensation out of the tb.

it also sounds like the same thing that is hapening to me but not as easy of a fix as doing 90. I couldnt figure out what it was so i took it to a shop and they told me my cam was bad...how? i dont know but i have to replace my cam now. The popping that i heard was coming from the carbeurator because one of the exhaust valves werent opening properly. You could even feel air coming out of the top of the carb.

any idea where the pop is comming from? how long did it sit? it could just be one of your rockers are loose. or it could be a much bigger problem than that.

It sat for about 2 - 3 weeks in average PA summer heat.

The pop is coming from somewhere up front, I haven't found out where yet.

My dad and I are gonna take it out today after he's done working.

up front huh? have you noticed anything else going on? over heateing? low voltage? Could be something with your belts and pullies. could be a water pump even, if its draggin or anything that will slow down your engine making it seem like its lost power. Im not sure, just spittin out ideas, your engine isnt gona "blow up" just take it easy untill you have things figured out.

hey guys... I circled the thing that is giving me trouble. It spins for like a second that stops for awhile. It normally idles at 1k but it goes back and forth dropping to 500 or even lower to 0.. but it still runs.

The car has no power now, its very slow.

The black thing pops and clicks and stuff is shaking a lot.

Help...

That looks like your compressor. If it's locking up you could have a power loss

The car is slow... give it gas.... nothing happens.

Pops and Clangs, idle drops fast.

Shakes terrible...more then usual.

yea, thats your ac compressor... never heard of all that happening before with one. Replace it, obviously. It may have to be done at a shop so it can be recharged, unless your able to do that yourself.
