305 Build-Up
My brother has an 84 z28 with the 305 HO motor in it. He's he wants to put summit shorty headers on it, a lunati 60103 voodoo cam .489/.504 lift, non-egr intake manifold, 2 dynomax bullets, and a 2400 stall converter. Would he be okay to take out the egr and the o2 in the exhaust manifold and put on the stuff that he wants and it not mess with the computer? And would the 2400 stall be good with those mods?
Also what do you think this combo might run with the above listed?
What HP range would it be in and is it worth the money?
Also running the mods with 3.73's, and shift kit.

No, the heads will not flow enough, regardless of exhaust headers or which cam/manifold package you use. In fact you should check around and see if anyone on here is using a cam like he wants on a 305. What fuel delivery system is in the car right now, that will tell you how important keeping an O2 sensor and EGR is.
He's using a quadrajet carb thats not hooked up to the computer.
He's just wanting to run 13's with the car. Is there a smaller cam that would work better with the heads to get him in the 13's? Maybe the voodoo 60102?

Well, that could be a problem in and of itself. I had a qjet 305 in my 87 before I restored it. Once disconnected from the computer, the egr solonoid and TPS would not function correctly and make that car fall flat on its face anything over 2750RPM (the secondaries would not open once disconnected from the CPU).
More to the point: The main problem lies in that the 305 was not created like a ford 302. The 305 still was a V8 that got a mix of both performance and economy....kind of like a mish mash of a V6 and V8. The heads are your limiting factor. 13's may be doable with a little TLC.. I get the reasoning behind wanting to keep it stock, but you are fighting a losing battle, once you get that top end right...the bottom end will go out. Best of luck though.

He plans on getting a better set of heads later when he gets the money. He's wanting to put the other stuff on there just to give it more power than stock. Let's say he put all the stuff on there with the 60103 cam, what might it run in the 1/4?
Its hard to say, no one really knows the condition of the rest of the drivetrain. I just can't see spending 1000+ dollars on heads only to dragrace a 305. Are his plans to purely do test and tunes weekends, or is he planning some other type of resto?
