Default 305 or 350?

i hope someone can help me identify what engine i have, its been driving me crazy.

all i know is my camaro had a engine swap, and the previous owner had a rebuilt 89 Iroc Z engine put in, i heard somewhere you can identify by the block code,

but there 2 codes a large 8 digit code, then a smaller not so clear one right under it, which is the cose i want to use? the bottom one the 8th digit looks like a triangle hourglass (guessing its a 8) neither code has a f in it anywhere.

safe to say i have a 350?

Try posting the numbers and see if anyone can decode them. I've always used the numbers on the back of the block where the engine meets the bell housing. But it's proally gonna be hard to see with the engine in the car. I'm not sure if the numbers on the side are the same.

Top number its really easy to read : Vol30ata (i think this one has to do with matching the car and engine together)

Bottom Number, no idea why its so sloppy stamped its very hard to make out 1K?162284 (pretty close but the 6 might be a 0)

my dads a pretty good mechanic and says it runs like a 350 but i just want to be sure.

Hope someone can help. Nothing personal but saying it runs like a 350 dosent mean anything. The IROC 350 only had about 280 hp an ls1 is only 346 ci but has near 350hp.

To find the engine casting numbers look on the end of the block by the bell-housing then look up chevy casting numbers on google. You should be able to find a chart that you can find out engine size.

There should be enough room to see the numbers on top of the bellhousing flange. Casting number is on the drivers side. And on one side or the other you may also see a 5.0 or 5.7.
