I have a 1989 RS, 2.8 5spd, I would like to put a new crate engine in herand make as close to astraight swap as possible.Their is a 3.4 availible, but I'm not sure if everthing will bolt up.
Andwhat componants might have to be changed or upgraded.

 

EVERYTHING!! It will not bolt up for ****, if you want to swap, then go for a 350, flat out easiest swap you can do.

Decide whether you want to go carb, TBI, or TPI, carb will make everything 10x easier.
Remove your engine and trans, get a 350, transmission, pullys and accesssories, and either a regulator on the stock pump, or remove the pump and put a mechanical pump on the block. Remove all the computer BS, get 350 mounts, and you are done.

Are you sure about that? Why wont anything bolt to the GMPP HT 3.4?

 

It looks as though Jr Mechanic will not verify why nothing will bolt up in the 2.8-3.4 swap.
The HT 3.4 was first in the GM Performance Parts catalog as an upgrade replacement for tired 2.8 S10s'. It was rated at 160 hp for 82-85 carbed trucks. If it bolts into an S10 it will bolt into your Camaro and should be a straight forward replacemement. Just check and make sure the oil pan looks the same.

I was thinking he meant pulling a 3.4 from a 4th gen...

 

I do believe those long blocks are the same smell. Just when you get to the 3.8 and maybe a 3.4 from a Camaro you have to check for a distributer drive.
