2.8 or 3.1
I picked up an 89 Camaro RS and the guy I got it from said he knew nothing at all about it, he bought it for his son but his son didn't want it. I ran a carfax on the vin and it came up as a 2.8, but the motor that is in it does not seem like it is a 2.8. I was looking at pictures and it showed that the 2.8 had like a circle emblem thing on the intake manifold. Well this one does not. Is there any way to tell if the engine has been changed looks wise. Did they even make a 2.8 without the emblem on the manifold?

RE: 2.8 or 3.1
There are no stampings what so ever on the engine plus the guage cluster is the type on the 90-92 models and the ground effects kit is off of a 91 or 92 because it has the pockets. The rear taillight is also in the back window which they started doing agin in 91. So I think that the car was wrecked or something and then they got a 91 or 92 parts car and swapped a bunch of stuff over. That or they changed the vin for some reason because as I said it carfax's as an 89 with a 2.8 MPFI engine. Sorry no digi cam but I can explain anyhting you need to know.

RE: 2.8 or 3.1
well without any markings or photos, its almost impossible to tell what motor can be in a junkyard car. it can be any variation of the V6...2.8, 3.1, 3.4, 3.8, 4.3.....
