Default 1990 IROC starter issues

My car's temper is at max these early cold mornings. Most the time I can
get it to start but have to put my foot my on the gas petal or it will
die. If I put enough gas into, there's popping coming from the exhaust.

Recently I put in a new distributor, dist.cap, sparkplus, s. plug wires,
muffler and cat.

It was in the shop for an entire week but it seems to only act up when
I'm
around.
The quailty and smoothness of the ride is hampered as well. I believe
theres a link here.

Can anyone give me a list of possible reasons my car is doing this.

Any help will do. Thanks.

i do the same thing. u should look into getting a deep cycle battery. when i start my 87 in the winter, it runs on like, 7 cylinders until it warms up. you could also be running a little rich on gas, that could be why it popping and stuff. try getting a deep cycle battery first, and seee what happens

The vibrations only go away after it's truely warmed up and I've driven it for at least 5 min. I'll start with the battery and see how that goes. Thanks for your help.

ps. what am i supposed to do if i actually am down a cylinder?

well, spark plus, and maybe an ignition upgrade can help, but these big mills we put in our cars are not happy about cold weather. it usually goes away as the motor warms up. It is not doing any damage to your motor, but if it does not stop with 5 minutes of starting time, then you should look into new plugs. AC delcos with a really fine point have seemed to work best for a small block. those multi electrode plugs dont do soo well in a small block, i didnt like them.

PS, its vibrating because the fuel is not burning correctly, so it skips a cylinder, making the next one hit its cycle harder. when the motor warms up, the gas burns correctly, and the vibrations stop. i personally think that there is not much to worry about, these big motors are very cold blooded, until they get hot. once they r hot, they get really hot. try a deep cell baterie, and worst comes to worst, maybe even new plugs.

if it makes u feel better, my car does the same thing. but once its warmed up a little ibt, its right back to normal.

Thanks for the advice. My only speculation is that it's never done this before. Not even when it snowed out. I'll check into a new battery but the sparkplugs are new.. I'll have to ask what kind the used.

Thanks again.

For what it's worth, my LT1 hard-starts on cold mornings as well, and sometimes feels a little bit rough until the motor warms up a little bit.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the 1990 IROC had the L98, correct? My dad has a 1989 L98 GTA, and I'll be visiting over Christmas. Keep me posted. If your car is still acting up, I can always take his GTA for a spin, and see if he experiences the same problem with the rough idle issues until it is totally warmed up.
