1990 305 valve seals question..
I have a 1990 camaro RS 305 V8 car, The valve seals are leaking a little bit of oil past them causing it to smoke a little. I have the valve covers off and was preparing to remove the heads , But My friends are convinced that I can change the valve seals without pulling the heads. The Machine shop says that the seals have a keeper on them unlike the early V8 305s therefor making it nearly impossible to change them in the car, so I am at a stand still untill further notice. So If anyone can tell me for sure its possible or if I have to pull the heads I would greatly appreciate it. Please no guessing here thats what I have with my friends and the local machine shop
Thanks guys for the help.

RE: 1990 305 valve seals question..
I believe the machine shop is pulling your chain. All you need is an ar compressor and adapter to blow air in the cylinder to keep the valves closed, remove rockers, valve springs and retainers, tear out the old seals, and slide on the new ones. Lubricate the new seals well and be careful not to damage them and slide them back on the valve stems and make sure to seat them properly on the valve stem towers. Put everything back together and you are good to go.
You may want to get ahold of a cheap repair manual, such as Haynes to verify things. Try to get Viton seals as they are reputed to be very good, although I never had any problems with the Felpro brand.
