Default 1986 Z28...fuel gauge and volt gauge

All gauges work on my car except the fuel and volt gauge's. I have taken the gauges out and with a meter, tested all terminals on the dash head itself. The fuel gauge has three terminals...one of the terminals reads 12volts, one is ground (I believe) and the other reads between 98 to 115 ohms. I know by using my odometer that the gas tank is near empty, but when I fill it up the needle will only rise to 1/4. Can I test the gauge itself to see if it is good?

Volt gauge....it just dont work at all. The dash head has two terminals for it, one ground and the other hot (12volts). The gauge itself has three leads coming off of it......Can I test this gauge also to see if it is good?

thanx.

The fuelgauge on my '88 was all screwed up but I found out it was the sender in the gas tank that had the problem.

Not sure what could cause yourother problem

I ohmed out the fuel gauge today....it is reading between 150-170 ohms, doesnt matter if the needle is moved to F or E, I get the same readings. I did the same with the volt gauge.....170 ohms, no matter where the needle is moved to.

Is this good, bad or any different? thanx.

Ok....I am looking for some confirmation on my findings.....

Again, I ohmed out the head unit of the dash for the fuel gauge....using my odometer, I am sure it is getting real close to empty. The ohms now read 75 ohms. (20 miles ago it read 100 ohms)

Can anyone confirm or deny that my sender reads high ohms at a full tank and low ohms at empty? I have tried doing many searches for fuel gauges and what might work in my Z28. I have found that some gauges work on a 0-90 ohm ratio, while others work on a 33-240 ohm ratio. I would think that my sender is the 33/240 from what my readings are giving me, but I also read that "most" GM vehicles work on the 0-90 ohms ratio. I just need someone with a Camaro like mine to confirm my findings/readings so I can determine that my sender is actually good and that the gauge itself is bad. If you need to know what terminals I am ohming on the dash head unit.....there are three terminals, I am ohming the bottom two with the key on.

goto a junkyard and see if you can pick up some gauges ouot of a car like yours. sometimes its just a crappy gauge. and if that dont work, its not a big deal cuz you didnt loose a lot of money for those two gauges.
