If the cam is a flat tappet then you must run a diesel oil with zinc in the additive package. If it was hyd. roller then any 5w or 10w 30 would be OK to run.

As mentioned, a roller can use any oil. I used to use diesel oil, but it too has now had most of the zinc removed, so using diesel oil for flat tappet cams no longer works as well. I now use Brad Penn oil for all my old flat tappet engines. It's a little more money, but cheaper than buying 5 qts. plus zinc additive. I get it for $75 a case at several local suppliers.

I use STP oil treatment, which has ZDDP that brings current day oils back to the "good old oil" specs. How many quarts are in a case of that Brad Penn oil?

DIESEL oil STILL has the ZINC in it, they have not taken it out like the car oil.

I can think of a much better use for the $2000+ for the after market efi. Not to hard to get a car started with a carb and a electric choke. Step on the gas peddle once and turn the key and car starts.

will right now push pedal about 20 times turn key and carb goes poof few more pumps will start then stall have to do this a few times to get running when u do get it warmed up u cant put it to the floor will stall out and go poof again but if u slowly push on the gas it will rev up without dying out also one day after running a lil while shut it off and it kinda tried to keep running

Set the timing and spend $300 for a new carb and give that a try. As always a little maintenance goes long way.
