Default Computer question on my 81 Z28

I recently bought an 81 Z28 and I am currently restoring it. It has 27K original miles on it. Theres a long story behind this car. My plans were to keep as much of it as original as I could. Im not a big fan of the electronic controlled carb. Nor do I care to much for the smog system. I have eliminated most of the smog stuff due to the fact that most of it was missing to begin with. I was also debating on just taking it back to a standard carb such as edelbrock or holley and eliminating the electrical part. Other than the check engine light staying on which is an easy fix, Im not too sure about the computer and other stuff. My 80RS I had wasnt like this one, so Im not too fami9liar with the computer setup for a carb. Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated. Also if anyone could tell me the location of the computer. I dont have a manual yet. Thanx.

Hi Bryn I'm not possitive but the computer should be under the dash on the passenger side, as for the carb I think if you take the electronics out you would probally want to get a new distribitor with a vaccum advance on it , the carb has a sensor that tells the distribitor to advance . A friend of mine use a carter carb with a petronix distribitor and it ran very well . good luck
