will might get a new carb for my 383 wondering if the holly 650 double pumper with electric choke or a holly avenger would be better

What kind of cam and rear gears do you have? Manual or auto? With the DP you have to get the carb size closer to the ideal compared to vacuum secondary. If you've got a high (numerically) gear ratio like over 4:1 with a manual you'll probably like a DP if it's sized right.

The Street Avengers aren't bad, in my experience they aren't nearly as pig rich at idle and cruise as some of the regular 0-3310 carbs.

It really depends on how the 383 is set up, as Fastlane mentioned. A 650 double pumper (or almost any carb) can be tuned to work with your engine, but it's better to start with the carb that works best out of the box and not have to do a lot of changing. A 650 vacuum secondary would be the most forgiving, and take the least tuning, but might lack a little top end performance if your 383 has a bigger cam and heads.

Still need more info on the engine to determine what carb would be best.
