Default Burnouts!!!

I have a 79 camaro with the 350 trans and was wondering how much horsepower on a rouch estimate would you need to be able to do burnouts without break torquing.

sounds like you have carb, timing, or fouled plug issues. your 305 shouldn't bog when you hit the gas. I had an 85 parisienne with a 305, way heavier car! that properly tuned would spin the tires all over town. You probably just need a deep carb clean and a basic tune up, if you still can't get it, just put some really narrow tires on it, it'll spin them. No need to build a big expensive motor if that's all you're looking for.

It has the original engine in it, so im guessing it just needs cleaned up and and a tune up probably but im looking at getting a 350 along the road anyways soI was wondering what a good horsepower rating would be for my car?

You probably have less then 194 house power. Some where around the 130 area. If you don't want to try anything to crazy just pick up some fuel system cleaner and switch to a higher octane fuel for a few trial runs. Original engine you might want to get it tuned up, it is probably dragging *** because the lobs on your cam are most likely worn down and your getting no vacuum. You might want to open it up and see if you need to overhaul the thing.

if i remember correctly the factor 79 like mine with the 305 was only rated at about 190 but i can tell you that if you was to replace the factory timing chain and gears that are plastic coated and put on a 4bb instead of the lil 290cfm factory 2bbl carb adn throw on a set of headers theyll fry the $h!t out of a 215/75/15. thats what i did to mine until i built my 350

I believe that the 350 stock 1979 had only 194 hp. The 305 I think had a lot less.
