396 or 402?

Default 396 or 402?

i recently got a 396 for cheap but it needs a rebuild n the only thing is im not sure if its a 396 or a 402 and every where i look they offer a 396 kit or a 402 kit so i want to make sure i get the right one ya know .... o got the block casting number its 3955272 and its got 2 bolt mains and when i looked up the bumber it said it was a 69 and could be a 396 or a 402 any help/advice would be grately appreicated

Find the engine suffix code stamped on the pad in front of the passenger side head.

If you're going to rebuild it, then it doesn't really matter which it is, as you can't order a kit until you figure out if it's rebuildable, and how far it needs to be bored. (if at all)
Once you've had it hot tanked and magnafluxed, then the machine shop will measure the bores and tell you if it needs rebuilding, and what size bore it is. Buying anything for it prior to knowing it's condition is a bad idea. Don't ask me how I know this!

ok so i was wondering if you guys knew about wat the avearage cost to get a block hot tanked an presure tested

Around here it's around $80-$100 for hot tank and magnaflux. Not sure what pressure testing a block is?
