Default Looking for posi, what other rears will fit?

I've been looking for a posi rear end for my 70 camaro. Not having good luck at all. The craigslist ads i'vs found are junk.

I'd like to know what other rear ends I can search on that may fir my Camaro too.Nova I believe is too small, and Chevelle is too big.

I currently have a 2.73, and just want it for a street cruiser, maybe a race or two at the local track. I thought I had a good catch with a 3.08 posi rear, but it obviously showed signs of abuse and neglect. I'd like to stick with a 2.93, 3.08, or 3.23, something along those lines.

I'm not really knowledgeable on switching the insides of rears, so direct swap would just work best for me.

I'm in the WNY area, if anyone had one they'd be willing to sell, please contact me of course.

Any GM F body 2nd gen will bolt in. That's 1970-1981 Camaro or Firebird. Considering you're looking for those with taller gears you should be able to find one easier.

Says the 75-79 nova is same chassis. Is this true?

Got an email from a jy, gonna check that out tomorrow, see what they say and see what they have.

No. The 75-79 Nova is 60.25" wide, and the 2nd gen Camaro is 62.50" wide.

Did a quick search of statewide Craigslist for New York.
Here's a posi in East Aurora for $250:

Here is a link to his site.He has a posi with disc brake setup listed now for $400,but i'm sure he has others in different price ranges as well.I've got parts from him a few times,he's a good guy to deal with, but be prepared,it takes him a while to respond to emails sometimes.

I never got any response on that ad.

I contacted the one in Hamburg, like i originally said, the ones I found on CL, like the one in Hamburg, was junk! The brakes were burnt, looked like he constantly did brake stands.Insides had rust water spots, but were freshly oiled over for sale.

The JY that contacted me, only ended up having a non posi rear, didn't notice that when replying to my ad(rolls eyes)

Left an email on that link that was provided, doesn't say anywhere on his site he's located, if it really is NY, i'd like to know where.

Like i said not sure exactly where, but he is definitely in New York.I've been dealing with him for several years. It will probably take a while to hear back from him,as he is pretty slow at responding. As far as if you are looking for the wrong rear,i believe the housing is the same size for the 8.2 or the 8.5,as far as the width and the leaf spring perches,so unless you are going for a factory correct resto,i would just go with the 8.5 as they will be eaiser to find and alot cheaper priced.

Default 70 -81 camaro rears

75-80 nova is NOT the correct platform. the rear is narrower by one inch and the spring perches are also narrower on the center line.

You need 45 3/8" center line spring perches the nova platform is 42 7/16" center line perches.

GUTS are the same 8.5 is 8.5 from 1970 -1987.

What is your price range? If you are in the 400.00 and lower range your just asking for a complete headache.

We build rears here in Akron. Oh and can build what ever you want. We do have used rears BUT prefer NOT to sell in these conditions as all rears are usually in need of something and we do not like disappointed customers.
