Hello all,
I have a 1980 that I put in a mild built 350 paired with a Saginaw (yeah I know I am already on the hunt for a Muncie) 3 ring 4 speed. My issue is the car is having trouble pulling out in first gear even on flat ground. I already checked linkages and the tabs thinking I had them flipped upside down and that my shift pattern was off but they are correct. My first gear ratio on the trans is 3.50 and rear gear ratio is 2.41. My question is do you guys think something is wrong with the transmission or is the rear gear just one that doesn't play well with a manual transmission. I plan on switching rear gears (3.42 or 3.73) but wanted to see if anyone had this issue or can point me in the right direction.

Way to high geared, those are even tall for an automatic.
You probably can't even use 4th gear much under 75 mpg I'd bet.
Yes (3.42 or 3.73) would be a lot better,if you don't do much highway driving maybe even 3.90 or 4.10.

Also if you had a larger diameter wheel it will hurt your cause. Any Cam except a towing Cam will hurt you bottom end torque. My 67 4 speed came stock with 3.55 and 14" wheels.
