i had also considered leaving the hole there if i can get it block sanded real good, not covering the hole if i can make a good rubber trim for the hole.but im running open element so that might not be a great idea.

didnt get much done today kind of been under the weather,my degenative arthritis has gotten the best of me today, have it in my hips, back, knees and my neck usually i can deal with it but today not so.LOL,cant be out in the cold long.but i did spray a guide coat so i can begin my blocksanding, and more sanding and more sanding, until i get it perfectly strait,i guess im kind of ocd when it comes to the sanding part, manly because its the most important step to a show quality paint job.

Another thing you could do is paint it body color. Just go nuts. Grind all the casting flash down. Actually prime it. Then paint it. I saw an episode of Muscle Car were they did a motor with cart rolls and even block sanded it. I will say it looked way better than my stuff but it was way too overkill for even me.
Chevy Orange is kind of incorrect for out years. I hate GM Corporate Blue. Black has been done. You don't have many other options. Dark grey?

I like all black, and leave the color to accessories like plug wires, and other accessories. Whatever you do don't go two tone color! Black and orange would look like Halloween colors!
I don't have a picture of my gauge panel, but here's a link to an aftermarket panel to fit:
