The Summit carb is a Holley. It's Holley's new economy series carburetor. So far I've heard good reports from those who bought them.

So if im going to spend money i might as well spend it to make it the way i want.

I didn't need a machinist to do my 383. Open the catalog, pic the parts that go together. Wait a week and then have the block machined the same as any other build. My machinist took the liberty of clearancing my block. He missed. He also charged 50 bucks. But it took ten minutes with a dremel to get it right. There were spots where the bolts were leaving a witness mark. I got the gap to about .080". Tore it back down and power washed the block again. Reassemble and done.

I'm still not putting a new crank and pistons etc into an unmachined block.

I didn't mean unmachined. I meant clearanced for the rod bolts.

Yes! Beore you do even a stock rebuild you should start with hot tanking and magnafluxing. Need to be certain you're starting with a good block before spending any money.
383's are not hard, but they do cost a lot more than doing a 350. The rotating assembly is around $1400 for all that's needed to get to 383 from a 350.

My rotating assembly was about 800. Not bullet proof but very stout on the street.
