Defrost duct to heater box connection

Defrost duct to heater box connection
On my 1981, the y-shaped defrost duct sits just over an opening in the top of the heater core box. But there is a gap of about an inch. Heater box and defrost duct appear to be positioned where they were meant to be. Is there a flex duct that connects defrost duct to the heater core?
