Default 78-81 instrument set

I have a chance on picking up a factory gauge set for my 79 Camaro. The ad just says 78-81, it has speedo, tach, clock, fuel, water temp and volts. Can I make this work on my car that has idiot lights?
Does it have to come from the exact year of car as mine to work?

Yes I'm still looking, after seeing it in person the gauge set was garbage.

I just ordered a set on e-bay they seem to go for 150-300 bucks. I think the older ones will fit but the signal lights will not be the same.

I think you can switch over to a guage oriented cluster, but you'll have to add some things under the hood such as a oil pressure sending switch and a temperature sending thermostat? plug, and a tach wiring harness. Hope this helps.
