Default What's in the box?

I stripped the interior out of my 81 Berlinetta to replace the carpet and stereo system. When I pulled the console I found what appears to be a computer module under the console in front of the shifter. It is approx 1-1/4"H x 5"W x 7"L. It has two large flat connectors plugged into one end with probably 10 - 15 wires attached to each plug. I didn't think this car had a computer in it. I disconnected it thinking "if it controls the engine, and it's disconnected the engine won't run". The engine runs fine. Does anyone know what it is?

Thanks
Tim

That's the engine management computer. The engine will run with it unplugged, but it won't run right. Not unless a previous owner has replaced the factory computer controlled distributor with a stand-alone unit. Otherwise, leave the computer connected.
