what engine?
maybe i should have mentioned that my plans are to make a pro touring 69 ss. ill have 18 or 19 inch wheels and tires as wide as possible, hopefully over 10" wide without tubbing.
well i think im going with the zz502 as money isnt my main concern because this is a car ive been dreaming about since i got a license. ive neevr driven a high powered v8 so i dont know about traction issues. will the 502 with the above mentioned pro touring setup have traction issues on the street? am i going to burn out at every stoplight?
fyi you guys rock, very informative, thank you

It's not really an isue with the traction, it is more like knowing you have the power to spin 'em at will. The car will be fine if you can hold your self back a little. And when you need to show off it's all there. If this is your dream car then do it up right. If you drive to hard and have traction problems then throw on a set of traction bars. That will help with the time as well. Let us know what you get and post some picks. You can get wide tires as long as your backspacing (off set)on your rims are right. Anything under 4" will let you go wide.
A big block with aluminum heads isn't all that much heavier than a iron head small block. 502 if You can, It won't handle too much different, just make sure You use small block a/c front springs.
I got a 68 with a ZZ502. the car is new to me so I can't give you a lot of details yet except it is scary fast. She is a one off full custom, Art Morrison full chassis, 9" Curry rear with a Strange chunk and axles, 4 link rear suspension, 5 speed Tremec, Hooker super comp headers with 3' pipes aand a lot of other goodies. This one has a custom intake system by Arizona Speed and Marine. Tons of torque and speed. I kinda wish it was a little more tame.

you can build a 434ci using a 400 block.its got the big block rumble.dirt trackers run them most of the season and never have a problem and they are turning them 7000-7500rpm..a 421 isnt a bad engine to build up.its just up to what you want
Big blocks also have over heating problems. I would PERSONALLY go with a Pontiac 455. It is a stroked Chevy 400 block so it still has the small block mounts and dimentions. It will fit right in. The displacment is that of a big block and the 500 horsepower mark is already there.

That is a better power to weight ratio and gas milage than the 454 or the 502.

An aluminum headed 502 doesn't weigh much more than an IRON headed small block. Compare it to an aluminum headed small block and there's a fairly significant difference. A small block stroker with aluminum heads might be light enough to tip the scale in favor of itself. It would be less work and cheaper too if your camaro already has a small block.

That can be modded too. Easily.
