Valve Cover Issues

Default Valve Cover Issues

Ok, So I installed my TrickFlow Twisted wedge heads and full roller rockers. Valve covers simply will not fit. Not because of height but because of width.

I bought these

Notice there are not any wholes. Do I need a breather?
I was thinking I could just cut a whole for an filler. But you need baffles to add a breather.
I was looking in other forums. Can I just cut a whole and add a breather?

Any thoughts?

Just get ya a hole saw and pop a couple of holes in the top and use these http://www.jegs.com/i/JEGS+Performan...50128/10002/-1. This is what I used on my GM Performance valve covers, just make sure you will not have an issue with rocker arm clearance.

Thanks, will order them as soon as I get the valve covers to check clearance. It is pretty tight with the roller rockers.

You want a breather in one cover and a PCV valve in the other. Don't let anyone talk you out of using a PCV saying it's an emissions thing only, it's not. Those fittings 73Z showed are slick, but not cheap. My covers aren't baffled either, but what I used was a rubber grommet that has a bottom to it, with a horizontal opening down low, and a foam insert that the push in breather rests on. For only a couple of bucks, it works fine as a baffle should.

I thought the pvc valve only helped with sludge build up. This is more of a racecar. I only run synthetic and it sees high rpms a lot.

I am very interested in this grommet with a sealed bottom and a horizontal opening. You don't have any links or anything do you. I have no idea where to find such a critter or even where to begin looking.

I will gladly run a pvc valve if I can find a way.
I don't think the more expensive screw in baffles will clear the rockers.

I'll look and see if I can find a link to one, if they're available on the open market. I picked up a pair of those grommets at a local swap meet thinking...those are cool, I've never seen that before! I was going to go again today, but didn't have the time. Maybe I should pick up a bunch of them and sell em here?
The PCV helps the crankcase "breathe" better, instead of the pistons doing all the work pushing it out the breathers. Since the PCV is sucking air out, it makes more fresh air flow through the crankcase, which cuts down on the chance of moisture getting into the oil.

Took ya long enough! $5 for a pair sure beats $50 for those other ones at Jegs, unless you were really lusting for that look.

You know PCV valves didn't come into use until around 1967, other than Ca. that adopted them in either '61 or '62. They were indeed mandated by law to keep blowby from just going into the atmosphere.
I'm not arguing that they don't work, or that they don't work better than just a breather, but they were designed strictly to clean up the environment, and prior to 1967 engines ran without them. I'm not running one because there's just no place to put one on my engine, but I would if it was not a big hassle to drill and tap my intake for a pipe thread hole.
