a waste of time IMO. all you are going to gain from that is a little closer in gear ratio's which can be rectified easier by doin a cam and stall with your current trans and not have to worry about shifting all the time plus a lot cheaper doing it that route rather than all the fabrication and wiring and countless other things. the 5 and 6 speed auto's dont go any lower in 1st gear than your 700r4 and the over drive is about the same as yours is now. as I said I would do a cam and stall to make up for that if your looking to get better acceleration. Also I would suggest some gears if you haven't done them already.

TCI makes a 6 speed version of the 4L80E. It will need a controller for use in your car. It is a pretty large piece and overkill for your engine, but it will bolt up to a SBC. Most likely you may need to do some body work to make it fit.

For what it will cost I'm not sure you'll really gain much. A 5spd or 6 spd will allow you to keep it in the peak rpm range easier, but that's about it. As mentioned you wont gain anything in 1st or 5th-6th than you have now in 1st and 4th.
