And also depending on the mileage the new transmission has if it doesn't have a shift kit on it already I would have that done as well.

Support the rear of the car by the frame, if it isn't already. Let the rearend hang free, and the slip yoke in the trans should now have enough travel to be able to slide forward. You need to get a screwdriver between the rear yoke and u-joint, and pry forward to pop the caps off the yoke. You may also need to rotate the driveshaft a little to roll the u-joint free of the yoke. Don't drop the caps or you may lose some needle bearings, and don't mix them up. This would really be a good time to instal new u-joints, but from the sounds of it, it's probably above your pay grade!

ya, the press in u-joints are a PIA to get off. On my brothers 04' 3/4 dodge the u-joints needed to be cut out because they were so bad. But his rear u-joint should just be the 4 bolts and then the clamps should come off.

Ok, i feel really stupid now because i looked it up on youtube right after my last post and didnt realize thats what i had to do. And I have dropped a trans before out of my friends 94 Z28 so I had some sort of idea of what to do with the rest because he took the driveshaft off before i got there.

Well I dropped the trans today aaaaaaaannd guess what? It is definitely not a TH350. Its a powerglide. So I ran into a big problem. Waaaaaaaayyy bigger than i expected. So now i have to get a stock driveshaft. And I'm going to rebuild that powerglide and put it back in later, because that is a damn good transmission for the strip.

And that new tranny has a torque converter with it by the way, all I need is a driveshaft, no big deal right? <sarcasm

Wow. I thought you said your new tranny was exactly the same? Anyhow, a glide huh? You didn't notice it only shifted once?

It never shifted at all, because 1st gear was completely gone. But yes it is a powerglide, and it looked longer when it was in the car. I didn't even think to look at the shape of the pan until i was looking in my chilton repair manual and saw it had pan shapes in it.

A powerglide is a good tranny for an all out race car that's strictly run on the drag strip. Unless you're planning on only racing your car it's a poor choice for a street/strip car. I'd put it up for sale and see if you can get $100 for it as a good core.

THAT car didn't come stock with a Glide. Look at the shifter in the car, does it have
P R N D 2 1 . It should because they only came with 3sp autos starting in 1973, not Power Glides.

I am going to rebuild the glide at school in the fall and sell it, because I do want a street/strip car.
