I want to swap out my auto transmission from my 81 z28 but i dont know whats compatible with it all i know (which isnt much ) is that the the only the canadian v8 5.7 models had a manual trans what can work on my engine??

 

Many different transmissions can go in but there's a lot of parts you'll need to correct for different lengths of the transmission.

I have a 78 z28 with auto transmission. i need a new shifter assembly and a guy is trying to sell me a slapstick shifter for it, and tells me it will work with my current tranny. Is this true? or was there a seperate transmission for the slapstick option?

 

the "slapstick" shifter came stockin some of the Z-28's. it will work with any 3 speed tranny, so you'll be all set. when I bought my first second-gen, it was actually a couple of months before I even knew about my shifter being a "slapstick"

 

i just put a ratchet shifter from b&m on my 2gear powerglide then put it on my th350 using the same parts. so ya it should work.
