Default which tranny should i use?

I have a 78z that came stock with a t350. I have everthing to swap in a super t-10 (hurst shifter/center force clutch), exept the z bar assembly. I do have pedals. I'm on the fence on if I should buy a z bar kit or beef up the t350. My motor is a 383 w about 450-475 hp so I'm gonna need a converter too. Please make up my mind.

Depends on what you want to do,automatics are probably more daily driver friendly and also more consistent at the drag strip.
That said I like 4 speeds and just think they're more fun,the Super T-10 is a good tough old tranny so it ought to hold up for a long time.

If it were me it wouldnt be a question. There's nothing like the feeling of slamming through a few gears and Y2K has a point, with the HP you have a manual like the T-10 is much more bulletproof.

The TH350 is a great tranny, and you'd get faster 1/4 mile times with it, but if I had all the parts to swap in a manual tranny I'd be out in the driveway doing it right now. I've always contemplated swapping in a 4 spd or a newer T56, just haven't gotten it done.

I would love an over drive swap. But after looking into what it costs to do it. I need alot of other stuff.

Yea, me too! I'm almost afraid my engine will load up from too low an rpm speed when cruising down the highway, if I had a overdrive stick. I'm running around 2500 cruising at 70 now, so I'd be around 2000 rpm with a 5 spd. and under with a 6 spd!

Hey Vall, I was searching out t56 swaps just to see what people have done and came across this. I would bet this was one of the first posts i ever made here. going on 5 yrs. Holy CraP! I still remember your line about being in the driveway doing it though.

That's an oldie Damon! And I've recently looked into a 700r4 swap again. I keep looking at that TH350 trans sitting in the Austin with no engine in front of it, and wishing I had a fully built 700r4 sitting there! With all the money I'm putting into the 355 I'm building for the car, I've got even less to think about putting into the trans!
Don't have a couple spare 4160 600 Holleys laying around do you? Swapping to a cross ram on the 355, and I'd like to upgrade from the twin 450's to the 600's when I drop the engine back in the Austin soon! ("soon", if the shop is done with engine work next week!)

Whats up with the tunnel??? I sold my 4610's for 10 bucks each at a yard sale a few years back. Had a pile of them. The local JY has a pile 4' high and 6' across of them. Mostly old Ford ones.
