whats the biggest tire I could use on a 15x8 cragar SS wheel with 4.25" BS that would fit in the wheel well? would a 275/60 work or would I need to go to a 255/60? or 275/50?

would it be alot of work and money to add fender flares?

here's what it says for WA

RCW 46.37.500
A motor vehicle that is not less than forty years old or a street rod vehicle that is owned and operated primarily as a collector's item need not be equipped with fenders when the vehicle is used and driven during fair weather on well-maintained, hard-surfaced roads.

K, that means by law a cop could give you a ticket. I would double check the b.s. on yours before getting different ones, especially since you measured 2.5-3". Are your wheels new or used? If used, it could be a b.s. that is no longer available. Also measure the tire clearance on the back side to see how much further in you can go, or so you know how much to compensate for narrower wheels.

Why not just sell the Cragars and go with a different wheel? Unless you're really stuck on the cragar SS wheels. If you go to 8" it wont change the amount of tire sticking outside the body. Only more back spacing will change how much tire sticks out. The tire centers on the wheel, so you'll pull in the sidewall with a 2" narrower wheel, but the tread will still be centered on the rim. All you'll accomplish is having your tires wear out in the center before the edges wear out by pulling it in on a too small rim and causing the tread to bulge in the center.
You can get a Wheel Vintiques chrome rally wheel for $119 ea. and then choose a cap for the center that you like, or just leave it open with chrome lug nuts. They have a 5" back spacing on their 15x10 wheel. These would pull them right in to even with the body.

the wheels are used and im pretty sure my BS of 2.5-3" was correct. They are the original, oldschool SS wheels so maybe thats the correct BS since that look was popular in the 70's. I will double check my current wheels BS and see how much space i have to go tomorrow.

Well I sure understand wanting a certain look, but if that's the case you may be stuck just forking over the bucks to have custom backspacing done. Getting a certain look is not always cheap or easy.

imo 15X8s look great on camaros. i need new wheels but im looking for a matching set of 15X8s then put BFG radial gt tires on those. and be set. they hug in the wheel well just perfect and dont rub in the wheel well at all unless the rare time of a speed bump or something.

just my 2 cents. i could scan you a funny pix of my dads 70 1/2 RS with those wide *** 14X10s he had with bias ply tires. ill work on getin a scanned photo for yeah im sure you guys will like it

The question is. Did you learn anything? I would not ever care to know the price of me learning. I would run it like it is until funds were available. Or sell the on craigrlist. Either way you'll measure next time huh?
