Hello every one!! I have a 71 camaro and I bought 15" rims from a friend the rear are 15x10 and fronts 15x8. My question is I have a pair of tires on onother rim thats 275/60/15I put it on the 15x10 rim and put them on the rear of my camaro and it rubs. Do you guys know if I replacemy rear shocks (wich I need to) will they fit perfectly with out rubbing? I need to buy tires for my rims but dont know what size to buy the rear and front rims.

 

i dont know what tire set-up everyone else in the forum has, but p275 must be huge lol (stock tires for most camaros is p225/60r15). i'm not sure what you hope to achieve from wider tires. if you just wanted a wide,aggressive look to your camaro, all you really need is p235 minimum. if you wanted the end of your car to be higher, wide tires wont help much; you need a combo of p2xx/65 tires, bigger springs and air shocks (thats what i would do, i'm pretty sure other ppl have their own suggestions).

i just dont think you should compromise your shocks just for some oversized tires (seriously tho, 275=huge lol) i think ur better off finding different size tires. besides, you wana make the best decision when it comes to your tires; all the horsepower in the world dont mean crap unless you have good tires to move all of it

 

275 is right under 11 inches (10.8), 235 is right over 9 inches (9.2) so you're only talking about gaining a little over three quarter's of an inch on either side since it would be measured from center of the tire. Also, the "60" in the second part is the ratio percentage of the side will in comparison with the width. So a 275/60 will wider and taller than a 235/60 since it's getting the height from the width comparison. You can go here and compare tire sizes with an interactive calculator.

There's more than just tire sizes that you need to worry about. You need to check your backspacing and other factors with the new rims you're putting on. Where exactly are you rubbing at?

I know you can get away from 255's on the rear and 235's on the front on most stock rims that came with the 2nd gens. I think anything over that and they'll start to rub. Going with aftermarket rims you're going to have to know other factors orther than just tire sizes.

hey dude actually those are the tires i got on my car but they weren't installed by me, i got a 79 idk if that would be an issue but i've heard the the body's are very similar. i should say that the car has not been moded for it i can tell for the way the car is set up and well this was just done last year.
anyways i had somewhat the same problem for my fron tires i had the 245/60/15 in front with this rims

and in the back the same rims but i have the 275,

anyways i fixed this by replacing my coil springs i got clearence and handleling. as for the back you might need to replace your leaf springs, (i'm assuming thats what you have) i mean they get old and sag so you lose clearence,

anyways it workes fine for me, yeah everyonce in a while it will touch the fender but thats if i treat the car brutally. if you aren't trying to ofroad or drag you should be fine. i believe unles the main trim of the body was different.

 

Iwas just asking what tire size would fit nice on the car the tires I got now are huge they rub on the top of the wheel.I tried these tires because I had them in my garage. They look nice on the car the tires imthinkingto buy are 265/50/15 for rear and 245/50/15 for fronts.I just want the agressive look on the car and i dont want to buy to small of the tire for the rims beacuse then they will look funy if the tires are to thin
