th350 removal
Im taking out the th350 in my 79 z28. When I take the bolts out will the tranny just drop or do I need to remove the flywheel aswell? This is the first time I have taken a tranny out so any other advice you could give would help a lot.

disconnect battery.turn motor over by hand and get the torque converter bolts out, drop the starter, transmission lines to the radiator ,speedo cable, get the exhaust out of the way,,unhook vaccum line to the modulator, drive shaft, unhook crossmember, put a jack under the tranny pan before you move the crossmember out of the way, pull the distributor cap off because you will probably have to let the jack down to get all the tranny bolts out(make sure someone is watching the distrbutor when you let the jack down),it really helps if you have a 2 foot extension with a wobble socketon the end of it,when you get the bolts out start lowering the jack and pulling back on the jack at the same time, hold on to the tranny real good because its going to want to fall forward with the torque converter on it.when you put the torque converter back on for reinstalling make sure you feel the converter pop 3 times, this lets you know that it went all the way back on.if its all the way on you should not be able to get your fingers between the converter and the tranny oil pan on the bottom.dont lose the torque converter bolts because they are spcial bolts

don't forget to disconnect the kick-down cable as well, you'll have to take it off at the carb, because the tranny end of the cable is hooked in and has to be disconnected when the tranny is taken apart.
you don't have to drop the starter, i pulled my tranny out of my 79 two weeks ago and i left the starter on.
