Thanks for replying and the info. I realize I'm dealing with a transmission that is 30+years old and that's kinda the point. No. No quarter mile or comp. Just a wrenching for the sake of wrenching really. Found this 79 sitting in a garage in KC. It had been sitting for 14 years. First I had to replace all the brake lines, pads, shoes etc. Then it took two weeks of soaking the cylinders with marvel mystery oil to break the 305 free.brought the car out of its long sleep. Then started modifying. Seats came out of a 2014 dodge avenger. Found a 1978 donor car that I took the tilt wheel, rear fin and lift kit out of and added. Replaced the stock 14" rear wheels with N50 15" slots and 14" slots in the front. Air shocks. I had a 350 engine on the stand that I'd gone through. Nothing extreme. Bored 30 over with a mild cam. When I changed the motor out rather than pulling the motor and trans together I pulled them seperate- why I don't know but when I was done the TH350 wouldn't downshift. I had this TH400 I done it before on my 77 so why not. I had to change the yoke, shorten the driveshaft, search high and low for a detente switch for the kickdown. In the process I took the shifter out of a 77 grand prix. It is the same shifter but mine was wore out. Had to change the brackets over. Now the shift cable bracket on the Th350 looks identical to the TH400 bracket only shorter in length. The bolt holes don't line up. Long story short. Everything has been installed. Down to finding a cable that's going to work as this one is to long.
