Sway Bar Bracket Screw Thread Tap

I have attempted to put my new brackets on the rear of the car that hold the sway bar drops. The car did not come with one, and the holes I suspect are not tapped. Anyone know what size I need to get?

They are 3/8 24 x 1 1/4". Sorry I forgot to tell you. The bolts are self tapping. If you tap your own then I guess you wouldn't need self tappers. i could have sent them to you but thought I was going to need them. I didn't-opps.

It isn't a problem, just so I know what I need to do is all. Something to do today. I'll be working in the garage putting my workbench that fell back up and working in the yard pulling weeds. Hopefully later I'll get the brackets on. I'm tempted to weld them too.

I didn't weld mine, but I did put nuts inside. There's actually a small hole in the side of the frame that's accessible above the swaybar perch on my '71. Just big enough to get a nut on and tighten with a rachetting box wrench. Figured it couldn't hurt to have one on the back side of the thin metal.

It never ceases to amaze me, someone here is always a step ahead of me doing something, and saves me a whole lot of hassle. I just picked up my "new" 3:42 posi rear end with sway bar (mine didn't come with one), and I was wondering, how big a PITA was mounting the whole unit. This thread just saved me a whole lot of thinking.
The guy was nice enough to pull the brackets/bolts that mount to the frame for me.
Anyway, thanks guys

If you're asking me; no I don't have rear disc brakes. The 79 I got my donor axle from was drums. I have converted my rear axle to 11" Impala drums and have never seen a need to go to rear disc brakes. The 11" drums give all the stopping power I'll ever want and they are a bolt on with no other mods needed.

Just do one side at a time and you'll have a referance. The axle on my new car has nothing, and I haven't done drums in a few years now so it will be a task for sure. Am considerind a s10 rear disc swap though. That doesn't look hard at all.
