Stranger In A Strange Land - Emissions
hi everybody. im here to understand this evap canister and accompanying valves if anyone can help, and here's why:
i bought a geo tracker half way in conversion to be a rock crawler(i swear i didnt know how bad it was). the worst part was the substitution of a carb for the efi. i understand this was done because some guys like the easier maintenance, no computer to fail and such. anyways i struggled with it mightily, and finally replaced the bocar, yes BOCAR, carb with a weber. also there was prolly four or five unplugged vacuum leaks.
so now all good. BUT, i need to vent the carb to the evap canister, and the gas tank as well, and the trackers can has only one incoming vent. so i snagged this camaro evap canister CHEAP on ebay, hoping it would guzzle up the remaining gas smell.
keep in mind, no ecu anymore. so, anyone know exactly how this thing works? i think if i can route it correctly i can make it work, but i wont know for sure until i understand how it flows, and what activates each valve, or if some are simply one way valves. btw i have many vacuum diagrams but their all a little different, and each diagram assumes you dont need to know the path of flow and trigger. if you can help then my eyes wont burn by the time im at work!!!
thanks!!

i found this on the jeep forum, but though it looks very similar it could be completely different. the piece i have came from a camaro. (also, it seems to have no bottom, turn it over and see yellow fiberglass insulation??) id REEEAAALLY like to take advantage of as much of the emissions stuff as i can(15 mpg at purchase, 25.15 mpg today, though babying it). but with no computer, i have to rely on vacuum activated valves(dont know if i have any in the first pic). i might have everything i need to vent the tank and the carb and purge at high rpms. or it might be a ridiculous waste of time?

You might get much better responses at an offroad forum.

because i dont need to know anything about trackers or rock crawling, i need to know how this camaro part works so i can adapt it to my needs, like i say, the tracker evap is not designed to accommodate 2 vapor sources. i jumped on this one because it had two incoming ports but im not sure what valves are what, WHEN/WHY they work, and in what direction. surely somebody here has wrestled with some of this emissions stuff... you see im afraid to do trial and error because if my gas tank cant vent, ill get bowl overflow at the carb, it has happened before, very dangerous.

No problem, and I'm glad you clarified the evap source. I was chuckling also when I saw your first post, but makes perfect sense now!
