steering column quick question
Hi,
I have purchased a classic grant steering wheel ( 3-bolt type ), with the 3196 hub install kit. Which i think is for 70-81 GM. But the kit seems to be wrong for my steering column. Being in the UK there is know one nearby to help and the columns i can find on the net and in the books, seem to be different to mine. Please can you all have a look at the picture included and inform me what is different about my column and what i need to do, to fit the grant steering wheel.
thanks from Luke

Looks like you have to pull the steering wheel off to see anything. The adapter just bolts to the big nut there and the steering wheel bolts to it. What is the prob exactly? You will need a puller To reemove this.
The steering wheel just comes off when you remove the six screws, the hub in the kit does not fit on the main column thread. I will add a picture tomorrow with the steering wheel off
The hub needs to be pressed onto the shaft, line up the teeth on the shaft with the grooves in the hub, then thread the big nut onto the shaft and tighten it down. This will press the hub onto where it needs to be.As far as the wheel itself, yes those screws are what holds the wheel to the hub,so it will come off if you remove those screws.
Here is a picture with the steering wheel and horn removed. The thred dosent seem long enough to get the hub on and then the fixing nut. Sorry about the poor quality picture, i think you should be able to make it out. Can the ring at the base of the thread be removed?
Thanks again from Luke

That adapter that's in there has 3 holes, plus two holes that are across from each other. The two holes across from each other are 5/16" NC, and they are there to attch a steering wheel puller to. Rent a puller and get two 5/16" NC bolts about 3" long. then put the puller on and pull the old adapter.
But before you pull the adapter you should check to see if the new wheel fits that adapter! It might already have an aftermarket wheel on it, and if so then you just need to install your's with the new horn ring and wheel.
