Default Starting Rebuilt Engine

I justfirst time started a rebuilt engine on a 71 350.For the timing to be correct, I need to have the distributerrotated counterclockwise from its original position. The overall movement is about 15 degrees off of its originalposition (the distributer window is facing the coil and the vacuum advance is pointing more toward the front of the car). I am wondering if I could be one tooth off when I dropped the distributer back in. I think I need to rotate the distributer shaft one tooth clockwise which in turn should move the housing back as well. Does this sound right?I appreciate anyhelp.

Sounds about right, but I wouldn't try to feel one tooth back. Instead bring it back up to top dead center (TDC), then pull it and move a tooth from there. You'll be able to see where it should be more easily that way.

no need to pull it.

Just move the wires one hole clockwise on the cap and re set the timing.

They are both right........ RAT454 's might be easier because you dont have to realign the oil pump shaft or have the chance of dropping somthing down the hole
