Default Starting problems on 79 camaro

Hey thanks for your help before hand. I have a 79 camaro that is having troubles starting. When I try starting it starts to crank over but when I give it gas it'll act like it starts I'll take my foot off then it'll die any possible solutions on this?

could be a few things, i had a prob sorta like that when i would keep throwin gas down the carb it would fire but come to find out there was no gas, my gas gauge wasnt working but reading over 1/4 tank.

if its getting gas by itself and running while your foot is on the gas it could be the timing, turn your distributer to find it.

maybe give more details of the prob and we might be able to help more?

Need more info to make an estimate. Is it doing this when it's cold or hot, or both? If it's doing it when cold I'd look at choke issues. If it's doing it hot I'd look at fuel supply things like fuel filter, collapsed line, plugged fuel supply at lines or carb.
Does it run OK once you get it going and drive it?

Yeah it was happening while it was hot outside today. Runs fine wants she gets going. I think it might be my air filter or carb, because I was a little possed started figuring with
the air filter and she started up 10 mins after I messed with it. Of course I didn't try to start after messing with it. I'll take some pics of my carb and air filter and some of the lines tomorrow for you guys

If it's doing it warm, then it's more likely to be fuel delivery. Might be fuel filter, air filter, plugged jets, adjustment of the metering screws, etc. Maybe a picture would help, but unless I saw something horrible Im not sure it could tell more.
Have you tried adjusting the metering screws? Just run them down to bottom while counting the turns so you can return to original posisiton. Once you've run them all the ay in, then back them out 2 full turns and start the engine. If you've got a vacuum gauge you can hook it to manifold vacuum and adjust the screws out until you get max. vacuum. If not, then use a tach and do it to max. rpm's. Once each screw is adjusted shut it off, and try to start it again.
If that doesn't work you may need a new carb, or a rebuild kit. If it's a Quadrajet be sure to pull the filter off that's inside the inlet fitting, and replace it. They're notorious for plugging as they're sintered metal, and the small porous filter plugs easily!

You have to pull the steering wheel to remove the ignition switch. Pull the battery positive lead first! Then once you have the wheel off, turn the key to the run position. Find the switch mounting screw that's inside the column and above center. There's small slot that has a spring under it, and push the spring in with the tip of a knife or small screwdriver. Then you can pull the lock out.
Now to get the cylinder out of the lock mechanism ot replce the lock. You get a papaer clip and bend a 90 degree bend about 1/8" from the end. Turn the cylinder to the lock position with the key. Use the wire to depress the pin that hold the assembly together, about 1/8" from the stake mark you see on the assembly on the side near the top. As you push it in pull on the tumbler and rotate the cylinder CCW until it pops up and out.
