Starting on the intake
Hey guys,
I've been reading a lot of previous posts, but I wanted to post just to be on the safe side. I wanted to start improving everything so carb, intake, headers, heads, exhaust, and cam is what I came up with. I'm going to say the cam is crossed off my list for the time being, as it was sold to me with a mild cam (though I don't know specs). I want a street car with gettup , not a dragger, so I'm also assuming I shouldn't go overboard, nor underboard, with any of the parts. Also, I'm about to move to Texas for grad school and have been told to keep my egr setup (I have no idea how much of a stickler they are there about emissions, but I don't want to chance it), so that limited my options.
So far, I picked up an edelbrock 1400 carb for $70 off of fleabay. I picked the 1400 because it is an EGR supported, cheap carb. I've also been thinking about replacing the intake with the carb, since they'll be off together. I know its a nothing job to replace the intake once the carb is on, but might as well make it easy on me. I've tried to do some research on intakes, know basically what they do, but I'm lost. More air and gas, less resistance = good. Stock = bad. That's about it. I don't know what MY car needs. I've found another cheap buy, an edelbrock performer 3701. Its EGR, it seems to pair well with the 1400, but I have idea past that.
Thanks
Jon

The 3701 is a decent street intake, and will perform well off idle to around 5,000 rpm's. That's perfect range for the street. It's a dual plane too, so that will help with everyday driving. The 1400 is a 600 cfm, and that's great for your intake and engine.
