^ For the record, my recommendation to check the vacuum modulator and detent cable was meant only to see if it affects his way late 1-2 shift. Yes, the high off the line rpm's would be something else, which means he could have more than one thing going on here.

alright thanks for the help guys. Im done with summer quarter at school and im making a 2 hour trip over the cascade mountains tomorrow on my way home to tacoma. So, I'm going to take it out on the highway today and see how she performs. I might have to play with the gas pedal a little bit but i'll let you guys know if i make it or not. If i do, then i know what to look for. I have a buddy with a shop on over there so i really just want to deal with it over there.

I think it would be best to take it back to the shop and tell them to fix it.

well, the thing is the shop definitely hooked me up. they only charged me $10. So, i really don't want to go back there and have them charge me more while doing a formal inspection. This mechanic just had some down time so he said he would look at it for like 10 bucks. If i can get to Tacoma i would like to deal with it there because i have a buddy who would look at it for free.

Also, if it turns out i do need a new trans, there is a place over there where i can get a rebuilt one for $450 and $200 to install it (comes with 2 year 24000 mile warranty). There is nothing where i am now.

Oh, and i have no idea how many miles are on the transmission.

Would too much transmission fluid cause it to act up like this?

No but too much fluid can damage it like too much oil can damage an engine. Also what's the color of the fluid. If its tarnished at all then the clutch packs have started to burn or the band has. Mine when I took it out and drained it was a brownish black color. the fluid when you drain it should be a bright red color.

Well, it happened. On my drive back to Tacoma the transmission totally went out. i have first and sometimes reverse. I was on the highway for about 45 minutes when the gears started slipping. Soon enough, the car wouldn't shift out of first and it kept slipping out of gear too. I was forced to pull over and call a friend to come pick me up, an hour and a half away.

They don't go far once they show signs of giving up. Seems they just start acting up suddenly, and then crap out completely.

yea, you're telling me. Going 20mph on the shoulder of a 70mph interstate was not my idea of fun. Oh well, now its time to rebuild the trans. What are the benefits of a B&M shifter?

Not sure what the advantages would be over a stock console shifter other than having the advantage of the ratcheting capability since my stock shifter was a column shifter!
