Default removing back seat

well i got some new nice front seats for christmas and have been thinking about taking out my worn backseat anyway since there's not really any room for anyone back there and can't find a backseat to match my fronts. its more of a 2 seater as i think alot of camaro's are. I was thinking about taking out the back seat and just recarpeting over where the seats sit. what do you guys think?

Well I think it's a heck of an idea! Why didn't I think of that?

I think you'll find you can't just carpet over the metal easily. It wont look right if you can't get the carpet to lay flat. I made up panels to make the surfaces flat. The bottoms are thin plywood attached with small L brackets that are 3/4"x3/4". The back part is a little of the same plywood, with some aluminum bent to make attachment points. Then everything was carpeted with wool felt carpet using glue and staple gun. Then attached with screws to the L brackets.
Those bottom flat panels lift to allow storage of CD's, cameras, etc. to keep them out of sight.

Took less than a day to do it all. Only tools needed were a circular saw to cut wood. Screw gun to drive screws. Stapler to shoot in the staples. A pair of tin snips for the aluminum. A tape measure.
That's it, plus some scrap cardboard to make patterns to fit the bases. The back panels were just measure and cut, then cover them. Mine took a little longer since I have the rollcage to fit around. Without it I could have finished much faster.
