Default rear ride height

Hi,

I have a 77 which seems to be sitting a little low on the rear, due to living in the UK i dont have much to compare it to. Most i have seen here have fiitted adjustable shocks and they have jacked them right up!

I have new Monroe standard shocks, with the original leaf springs. They seem to be in quite good condition, the bushes are a little cracked though. I have 15inch Crager wheels on Cooper Cobra GT tyres and from the ground to the bottom of the wheel arch is 26inches.

Thanks from Luke

Google search is your friend! Lots of pics of stock Camaros that will give you an idea od how it should have set when new:

Monroe sells air shocks that are about $60 USD, so maybe you can find a pair of those to help a sagging rear suspension?

Hi,

I was told that using the air shocks and jacking them up, will really effect the cars handling.

can someone please tell me the correct ride height for a good working suspension.

I would just grab a set of Summit springs and call it a day. I realize your in the UK but these cars are well known for saggy butts. A cheap set of springs will fix you up. Here's what I know. Quite a few people who purchase a set of 2" lowering springs seem to complain the rear didnt drop the way they thought and in some cases raised the rear. The reason is because it had already sagged 2".

Raising the car too high will definitely affect the handling poorly. That's pretty much with any car made. But raising it up a couple inches with air shocks, or new leaf springs wont make your car handle poorly, unless you get crazy and make it look like a stink bug with the rear in the air!
I'm running 2" lowering springs in the rear of mine, and air shocks also. The air shocks wont change the ride height on my car more than maybe 2", even with max. air pressure in the shocks. I use them to adjust the ride firmness, not to raise the car. I like to keep it as low as possible, but not rub, so the air allows me to set it just where I want it.

Thumbs up

Hi,

I have used Rick's before and had been looking at there 4 leaf and 5 leaf springs. I will have a look on summit, i didnt know they did things like springs, thought they only did engine parts.

Thanks

I got my springs from Summit. Their pricing on springs is pretty reasonable. Shipping will probably be spendy for you, but you're probably used to that for imported parts.
