Rear end question
Hey guys i have a quick quetion. I am redoing the 78 camaro. I was looking for a posi rearend and found a 3.73 posi. The price is right for me the only thing i need help on is its coming out of a 86 s-10 the guys has a big block s-10 that he is parting out. So my question is will a rear end from an S-10 fit in a 78 camaro. Any help would be great. I don't want to buy it and then it not work thanks guys.

I would be buying the entire rear end. If i have to do fab work i would go a different route. I do have a welder and have done fabrication before, so that is not a problem. but Not wanting to all that work just to put that rear end in. was hoping that i would just bolt in. thanks

The stock s10 axel is very weak. You say bb so may be he swapped it for a larger 10bolt. Camaro 10 bolts have an 8.5 ring the s10 alittle over 7 I belive. A good indicator of the larger is the "ears" on the bottom of the pig. Potterboy, GMs don't have a drop out center section like fords do.

I know that its not the stock rear end. I helped him change it out last summer. I don't know what it came from but i know it held up to his big block. My only concern is if it will drop in and bolt up to my leaf springs thanks guys.

As long as it's an 8.5 inch ring gear rear end you're fine. If it's a 7.5 it's a PoS and should be tossed. You'll spend more money trying to strengthen it than you would just buying a strong stock rear end to work with.
You'll probably still have to move the mounting pads to fit the Camaro though.

An S10 rear wont just bolt into a 2nd gen, as the spring pads are different width. If the perches were moved on the S10 for whatever reason then it probably will still be questionable, so the only way to know for sure is the tape measure and inspection of both spring perches.
