quick help
I'm new to classic cars and I'm going to look at a second generation Camaro today at 1.He never told me the exact year.I know this car has a 350 with 4 bolt mains. The guy told me he has $500 under the hood alone. He said it has a Edelbrock aluminum intake manifold and a Holley Carb. I couldn't get close to see the body but it looked good from his drive way. He said that he'll take a thousand for it today. I'm going to try to talk him down. My main question is what should I really be looking for when I get there. Whereare the main rust spots? I've worked on some classic cars but that was when i was really young. Any suggestions?
Take a magnet with you, to check for bondo (bondo isn't always a bad thing, but it just helps to know if it has it). look for rust bubbles. look down the sides of the car, and see if it looks straight.
The only thing I really worried about is making sure the frame is straight. We have a 66 Chevy truck sitting here with a 350 with 2 bolt mains and a Turbo400 trans. I also have a good rearend with nice rims and tires that will fit. I have plenty of Mechinical parts to make it work, The car just has to be good. This is my dream car so I'm really going into this with high hopes.
We agreed on $750. The body on this car is perfect. EXTRMELY MINOR rust behind the left rear fender. The driver's floor bord is rusty. the Interior needs new seats and to clean up everything else. This guy bought the Block with nothing but the Crank in it. He said something about the crank being stamped"442". What does this mean? He said it has a mild cam, long tube headers, Chevy Comp. heads, Holly carb, Edelbrock intake mainfold, forged pistons. It's a 350 that he said he had worked on to be a 400. He made sure to state that it wasn't bored any. What could he have done to take it from a 350 to 400? It has the stock 350 auto trans. The only really bad thing is the car has sat for 18 years. I can't wait to get it home and rip into that motor. I hope it's not seized up. He said that it's no drag motor but it'll hang with the best of 'em.I still can't believe how perfect the body is.
its prob. a 383, which is a 350 with a 400 crank, they are very popular. $750 is not bad, what year did it turn out to be? check for rust around the rear window, trunk, lower front fender just in front of the door
It's a 78. I don't know what model it is though. I know it's not the SS or Z-28, there were no markings. If yall have some good interior peices laying around please let me know. This one needs to be completly redone.
The doors were kinda hard to open but i think some WD-40 will fix that. The drivers side floor board has a rust whole in it but it's about the size of a silver dollar. Not that bad. I know of a junk yard with 3 second generation Camaro's sitting there rotting. I'll have all the doner parts I need. I really wish I cold just go buy them instead though.
