Folks: I recently purchased a car remotely that was indicated to have a drive train from a 1976 Camaro.
The vin plate indicates the V6 engine is 231 C.I. and puts out 135 hp.
I have had the car inspected before purchase, it is indeed a v6 and drives well.
My internet research suggests a V6 was not available until 1980.
Also that if the distributor is between the carb and the firewall it is most likely a 229 C.I.
No V6 is indicated to produce 135 hp.
I am not expected to receive the car for a few weeks, however my curiosity has got the better of me.
Any thoughts on these specs?
Thanks for any input.

What year is the car?
And you are correct, 1976 didn't have a v6, only a straight six.
What VIN plate are you referring to?
If you know it's a 231 (3.8L), and it is in fact a 1976 vintage, then you would have a Buick-Olds-Pontiac engine.
Thanks for the reply.
The donor was used to build a replica car.
It is a custom car and vin plate.
I know most vin plates only show the vin.
I will try and attach a picture.
What about the location of the distributor?
Thanks
