i dont want to seem naggy plus about a block away there was another house with an old muscle car in the driveway under a tarp and i knocked on the door and they seemed very nervous when i asked about it and they were rude, so i sent a letter to the house with the camaro to be on the safe side and to seem a little more formal about it, and told them to contact me either way if they are looking to get rid of it or not.
Man, you're treating it like a business sales cold call!
Since you've already sent it, treat the letter as an "ice breaker", and knock on the door in a day or two anyway. Don't wait for them to call, they may never do that. Would have been better to say in the letter that you'll follow up with them personally in a day or two. It's easy to throw a letter away or forget about it. But when face to face, they may see a more genuine interest you have to give the car a loving home, and they might be more likely to give you the time of day. If nothing else, they'll probably remember you if and when they do go to sell, if they aren't willing to now.

About once a month I get someone either leaving a note on one of my two vehicles, knocking on the door, or catching me outside, to ask if one or the other are for sale? The third car is in the garage, so not seen by passing eyes.
I don't mind people asking, unless they're too pushy when I tell them the '69 Suburban or the '63 Falcon aren't for sale. When they don't take no for an answer is when I tend to get rude.
