owuSupercharger Questions
I have a 1980 Z28 with a 350 in it..the engine is built up a little bit...but not too much, i bought it like that...im thinking of putting a supercharger in it this summer, and I was wondering what I need to do in order to do that. If anyone has done one lemme know wut u did I would really appreciate it.
Thanks
Thanks
I seem to think that the 1980 was carbed. In which case you have to decide if you want a roots type, screw type, or a centrifugal supercharger. The centrifugal unit will have to be a blow through type, which means that the carb will be pressurized, and the fuel system upgraded in order to deliver fuel to a pressurized carb. I dealt with this set up before and I found it to be a PITA to keep it working right. The other two types will most likely be easier to live with, but they will require a hole in the hood. Of the two, the roots blower looks the most impressive, but the screw type is more efficient,
As for power, it depends how your engine is built. High compression and superchargers do not mix well, and low compression with big boost make a lot of power, but can tear the engine with weak internals apart. Also, keep in mind that the centrifugal supercharger is weaker at the low end compared to a positive displacement type, but comes on strong at the top end where the root blower tends to run out of steam.

Keene-Bell is making a unit to fit the LS2 engines. Supposedly to be available for older SBC very soon (maybe already). I have seen this blower and it will fit under almost any hood. It is a twin screw capable of 700 hp.
