Is the stock radiator just a one row radiator?

I don't think the Z28's came with the little rad, only for the 267's or the 305's

I believe the Z28 was a 3 row, so I'd go with either a 4 row or two 1" rows.

Yeah my 78 Z has a 3 row (stock), it should work pretty good if everything else is working good (fan, shroud etc.) maybe get a extension for your fan so it can be closer to the rad? but to be on the safe side i would just look for a bigger one.

Sorry its been a while since i've posted about this problem but, the car is still overheating. I put a 160degree thermostate in and it still over heats with the same symptoms. i figured the thermostate wouldn't help but for $13 is was worth a try. I know the fan isn't stock thats on the car, i don't even think it's the stock 18in size, it's a lot smaller. So i went to the parts store and picked up a stock 18in fan for $20. I noticed that diagram said the fan needs to be 1in from the back of the radiator. Well i measure and it was pretty obvious it wasn't even close. Currently there is a 5.5in gap from the back of the radiator to the front of the fan. I know they make spacers and the biggest one i've found is 3in which still doesn't put me close enough. Plus i believe there already is a spacer on the current fan, so i'm stuck. I'll tear into it all this weekend but i'm baffeled as to how i'm going to solve this issue.
