OUTRAGE!
iv talked about this car in a previous thread about what should be done to the car now (81 camaro 383 stroker)... well i am outraged about what just happened... the engine was just built not a month ago, i havnt even been driving it for a month now. the guys that built it seemed like good guys, didnt think they would do me wrong BUT, i took it in to have a transmission line checked out... they fixed it up no problem and i asked them about a noise, they checked the noise out and it has somthing to do with my pushrods and my distributor... its gonna need a different distributor and they are going to have to take the engine apart again and do somthing with the pushrods... that would be all fine and dandy if they were doing it for free since it shoulda been ok in the first place... but they are charging me another $1200 for it after i just paid them $4200 to build the engine. does that seem right... i mean i just got the car back right before christmas... hasnt even quite been a month and its broke and i think it should be fixed by the shop no charge...
You guys drop me some input and lemme know what u think.

they never told me anything about a warranty... a friend of mine referred me to them for the work, they had done some work on his mach 1 and did a great job so i thought id let them do my camaro... i guess its my own stupidity not askin about a warranty but the shop is a family owned shop out in a lil county area, didnt think they would try to rip me off so bad... but i mean literally its only been out of their shop for 3 weeks... and now theyre wanting more money to fix somthing that shouldnt be happening in the first place.
This is the type of thing that people win all the time on "Judge Judy" and so forth. You can claim it never was done correctly.
I would definately not have any more work down by them. They will only continue to screw you.

1ST off... props on bringing judge judy into the conversation... that was a good giggle.
but yeah im not lettin them touch the engine again... im headin back out there tommorow morning and getting it and taking it to my granddads shop and me and some buddies are fixin it up ourselves, got all the equipment i need out there and any thing i dont know how to do myself my granddad will know how to do (of course ill still do the work cuz hes gettin old hes just there for pointers). They got the engine almost to what i wanted and im gonna finish up the rest before they screw me over more.
They told me that i shouldnt even start the car and move it from the shop... said if i move it i need to have it towed. Everyone iv talked to about that though is sayin thats just their way of keeping the car there so that i wont have much of a choice but to have them fix it...
im not really the type to bring someone to court in situations like that... it would make since... but im more the type to just cut my losses and handle things myself. If you cant get it done right, Do it yourself. I guess i just wanted to vent a lil though... this helped.

what could go wrong with new pushrods and a distributor.i dont see 1200.00 worth.there has to be some sort of warranty on workmanship.i would not pay another penny.i would get my sh#@ and fix it myself.if pushrods and dist. are making noise i would be looking real close at the cam.dump the oil and look for metal.no big deal changing pushrods ,pull vlv. covers, loosen rocker arms turn them 90 degrees and pull the pushrods, not real invasive.
yea, sounds like some bull**** to me, I would have blown up on them as soon as they said it would cost you more. But Like bow tie guy said check out the cam, and pushrods ect. sounds like you might have to get the timing just right after you do this one
Dam you could have bought a NEW, no-flaws MOTOR AND TRANS for that much in the first place.

Yeah I towed the car from that shop and took it out to my granddads shop. Now the shop that ripped me off said the engine was knocking... well we tore the engine down and there is absolutlty nothing wrong with it... so what the hell were they gonna charge me for. the engine was also poorly put together in the first place... the parts were what i wanted, but they didnt clean the block properly after the machine work was done which left a few spot of metal in the cylinders... no metal in the oil pan from the distributor like the shop said their was though, the cylinders only suffered a few surface scratches from that neglect though... nothing a lil honing wont fix. The rings they used didnt seat properly which lead to oil all over my plugs and the main and rod bearing were scratched a lil... but nothing that would cause a knock.
were replacing the main bearing and rod bearings, the rings, a new gasket set of course, and im puttin a new flywheel on cuz im missin a few teeth... all that for under $300.. so what the hell were thay gonna charge me $1200 for. The $4200 i spent shoulda had that engine perfect because you guys are right... i could have bought a brand new 350 crate motor for that price(not even that much) but instead i decided to let that shop do the work on the engine i had... and i think they ripped me out of a 4 bolt main block also... they said the original 4 bolt main block i had was cracked but would never show me the cracks... the sold me a newer model tahoe block for $100... im thinkin of goin up there and askin to have all my original parts back and takin that block to a machine shop to get checked out... i think they just wanted my 4 bolt main for themselves...
ill know better than to let someone else work on my car... unless your related to me... noones gonne touch that engine except me.

i would get all up in there sh#@ to,but to be honest with you,the block (4 bolt),really aint all that .the machine shop that i use,has a storage bldg. full of them.he would rather have a 2-bolt block and drill it and make their own 4-bolt block, says its stronger.they use the 4-bolts in stock applications.you have every right to get your parts back, even if you end scraping most of it.glad to hear everything looks good .now you know and you will feel better about it.
