I have a 72 camaro that is currently in the body shop. I was wondering what the advantages to a one piece rear spoiler over a three piece would be or is it pretty much personal preferance. any advice would be appreciated.

I have the 3 piece now, just been looking at pics with the one piece and can't decide which I like better. If going to get one piece want to do it soon so the body shop can put it on and paint it while painting the rest of the car. just didn't know if there were any certain advantages either way. thanks for the reply

One advantage to the one piece is if your hinge springs are kinda weak the trunk will open easier do to it's lighter weight. The three piece is also a little more difficult to get everything lined up. I myself prefer the three piece but that's just me. You should choose the one that looks best to you. What color are you having it painted? Hope you'll put up some pics.

Actually the one piece used on the 2nd gen Camaros is not the same as the one piece used on 1st gens. It is a different spoiler that came out on the 1970, and some early 1971 Camaros. It's also hevier than the center section of the 3 piece, so if your springs are a bit weak it will only enhance the problem.
My '71 came with the 1 piece spoiler, and I extended the height to make it taller. I liked the 1 piece, but wanted the taller look. My trunk spring is tired, and I've adjusted the spring to it's highest setting, but it still wont hold open if I'm sitting slightly uphill. I just keep a small prop in the trunk to slip under the hinge when it's feeling weak.

I DNKT Vall. I'm sure I read on another forum that it was lighter but I'd take your word on it first. Wonder if that goes for aftermarket one-piece compared to original 3-piece as well. If the OP's springs were weak this would be a great time to replace them.

thanks for all the replies, I have been looking at pics and I may go with the 3 peice I have because I think I do like its look alittle better. Pablo, I am getting it painted black with white racing stripes. Hope to have it back sometime at the first of the year and will definatly post some pics when I get it back.

Yes, I converted to LED's using LED's from United Pacific Ind. for a '59 Chevy truck. I just opened up my lenses and installed them behind both tailight and backup light lenses, but you could just do the tailight lenses if you wanted.
