Default OEM Parts

Hello,

My father and I will be starting into a rebuild on our 1974 Z28. It is 100% original and intact and we intend to keep it that way as much as is possible. Unfortunately, the interior is has been ravaged by heat and moisture and most of it must be replaced.

Most of the interior parts we need (like the center console, dash pad, headliner and carpet) have been found on Classic Industries or other similar places. But the car has the Type LT interior, which we can't seem to find in any catalogs.

The interior is black, and has seats with the center section cloth and the edges are vinyl. The door panels are similar. We would like to replace these things in kind but need some direction on where we can find these parts? Do they need to be custom upholstered?

Also, the original steering wheel and gear shift **** were sticky to the touch from new, so my Dad replaced them with aftermarket ones. While we have the originals, we'd like to find new ones that aren't nasty/sticky to bring the car back to original. I am also having trouble finding these parts. Any ideas?

Thanks for your time.

I know what you mean with the sticky steering wheel. Mine is like that as well and I was never able to figure out why it did that exactly but I guess they are just melting. I bought a grant gt wheel to just replace it with.

Sounds like you have a deluxe interior. National Part Depot

The stickyness is the plastic degrading. My 78 wheel is the same way. dash too for that matter. I don't know if the repops got rid of that or not. Both are made though. You won't find OEM. If you need to dye something to match SEM Landue black topped with thier low gloss clear is said to be a dead ringer for stock and it hold up too.

Welcome! BTW

Ya, I just did a wish list at classic industries for all the interior I would need plus a new camaro emblem that I found on the ground broken and it all comes up to $3900. I'm thinking that will have to wait a lil bit till I can get it all done at once. Once I can get some descent money coming in it wont be so bad. but pretty much everything needs to be replaced in my interior! And I'm not exagerating either. I know my driver side seat frame is broken and I'm pretty sure the passenger side is too, no functional seat belts, dash is warped and dry rotted, rear seats need recovered, headliner board needs replaced, glove box gave out a couple years ago, missing one of the rear inner sail panels, the other is nice n dry rotted, kick panels and every other panel is pretty much the same. So my plan is after I redo the front n rear springs I will go and start getting everything together for the interior.

Ya, well there are only a few places around these days that you can actually find what you need for the interior for our cars. Everyone always has stuff for 1st,3rd and 4th gens but we get left out in that are I think.
